The Wolf is an important family crest. Revered as a good hunter, the Wolf was often associated with the spirit power a man needed to acquire to become a successful hunter. The Wolf is said to be the land manifestation of the killer whale. According to legend a supernatural white wolf transformed itself into a killer whale and thus the whales show white markings and have a habit of travelling in groups, like wolves do.

Raven was full of supernatural power. He could dive beneath the sea, rise into the sky, or make anything happen by willing it. His legendary antics were usually motivated by intense greed, and he loved to tease, to cheat, to woo, and to trick. Traditionally, Raven was shown more often than any other creature of legend, due to his mythological legend of creating the world. This scene shows Raven placing fish in the rivers and sea.

The Haida have a legend of a Raven-Finned Killer Whale, a whale chief who carries a raven perched on top of his tall dorsal fin. There are legends of two, three and even five finned whales. This could be from when clusters of killer whales are surfacing together. Also told is a story of how the Raven escaped the body of the whale by pecking itself out of the Killer Whale's dorsal fin.
